In Velociraptor Mode by JRigh In Velociraptor Mode by JRigh
Woke up the Fluffy Velociraptor this morning, and apparently she got up on the wrong side of the perch! She was in full velociraptor mode when I was removing her covering. lol Then it turned to kisses, soft chirpies, and fluff once I put the camera-phone away!

Shows how spoiled she is! She would complain at night and we couldn't figure out the problem until one day I moved her food up to clean below while she watched from her bed. She stopped complaining at night after that! lol Too lazy to even climb down for food ... silly bird.

Btw, do you still use betadine salve on the chest and tail? I kinda worry that u still apply it for a long term when there is no wound on the skin. Have u considered to give her a feather duster like this: [link] I've read somewhere that it'll help to cure feather plucking habit. If a bird wants to pluck feathers, it's better to have her plucked "other's" feathers than her own, right? She can also snuggle and preening the feather duster... Just make sure you buy the one that is not colored. :)

I use the salve only if she has an open wound, so no worries there! And I've been using it less and less ... she still trims her tail feathers down to nubs, but she isn't tearing open the skin (hasn't for about 2 months now). And I bought her a feather toy from a parrot store that was basically a bunch of feathers ... she shredded it within a few hours! lol Then I got her those yucca tree 'kabobs' [link], and those seem to be doing the trick so far. I got them 2 months ago, so it coincides with her not tearing her butt up. We also got her a nice avian lamp and that seems to help too.

She saw the avian vet again a couple of weeks ago for a follow up, and her vitamin levels are finally good now. He thought she may have been deficient and that caused her to pluck. I give her a supplement, and the avian light is supposed to do the rest. So far, so good, except when she stresses out she starts pulling out feathers no matter what we do. And she stresses out over nearly everything! Thanks for the suggestions! I just may try a feather duster too.

Ever consider another lovebird for her playmate?
Two are not too many I think ;)

I had considered it. A neighbor has one and I watched her for a couple of nights for him. Jo Jo kept up her 'velociraptor mode' when I stuck their cages near eachother. She kept doing her "danger" call, so I had to move the other bird out of sight. And even then, every time Jo Jo heard Sally she would do her "danger" call and start pacing in her cage. Sally behaved herself as a proper guest should, but my Jo Jo was NOT a good host! lol

She almost did! lol  Btw, how are you doing now since your birdie's passing? It is still likely very painful, but he was such a darn good birdie that I'm sure you are also filled with very happy memories. Take care and birdie kisses from the Fluffy Velociraptor!

She's actually getting better with it. Although, she only tolerates me putting her on her back, but she adores my husband when he does it. He'll even walk around with her in his hand where her back is against his palm and her feet hanging on to his thumb. When I do that I get squawks and bites! lol But when he does it, she softly nibbles on his hand. Ah well ... lol
